Wood Engraving : Faraway World cover illusration

FULL SET OF WOOD ENGRAVINGS AT LYON AND TURNBULL Joseph Sloan has, for the first time, released a full set of wood engravings which were commissioned as the illustrations for the 1977 book "Faraway World; an Orkney Boyhood" by W.Towrie Cutt. A portfolio comprising 24 original limited edition, hand printed wood engravings, together with a signed copy of the book, will go on auction on 16th August 2018 in the Lyon and Turnbull (Edinburgh) Modern British and Contemporary Art Auction.

I will be having a one-man exhibition in the Orkney Museum in Kirkwall, featuring the wood-engravings created as illustrations for the book 'Faraway World', as well as some of my Aran Isles series wood engravings. The exhibition runs from March 7th - 28th 2015 and will continue on a tour of other of the smaller islands.

Joe is delighted that this new Lino cut is to be seen in the Annual Exhibition at Belfast's Royal Ulster academy. A selected exhibition, it opens on 18th October and runs through until 5th January 2014.

For the second consecutive exhibition, one of Joseph Sloan's wood-engravings has been selected from a send-in of some 1,200 entries for the British Printmakers' International Miniprint Ehibition which begins its U.K.tour in London in April 2012. See www.8thminiprint.com for further details.

A series of unique semi-figurative bronzes will feature in Sloan's exhibition for this year's Kilkenny Festival. Also included are a new series of etchings themed on the Aran Islands as well as many small, retrospective works and some outdoor sculptures.

Ode to a Woodland Walk

This bronze will feature in an overview of work - from the miniature to large scale exterior pieces - to be exhibited during KILKENNY ARTS WEEK, which runs from 7th to 15th August 2010. Sloan will be showing in the Garden Suite and Pation of the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel and will be pleased to meet visitors there personally throughout the exhibition.

In the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition selection, a wood- engraving of Sloan's was chosen for exhibition and can be seen in London until 16th August 2009. Another wood engraving is still on tour in U.K. selected from an international send-in. This is in the 7th British International Mini-print exhibition. Later this year his sculpture wil be features at the Royal Ulster Academy, Belfast where he is an invited artist. Work will again feature in Wexford, at Greenacres, during the Opera Festival period.

Joseph Sloan will be exhibiting four large bronzes in a selection of works influenced by music at Greenacres Opera Festival Exhibition. The exhibition opens on 15th October and continues during the Wexford Opera Festival period.
