Mani
John Keating
MANI / HANDS is the title of a major exhibition to inaugurate the relocation of the prestigious Milanese gallery Compagnia Del Disegno in the historic centre of Milan, close to the Duomo and the famous La Scala. The gallery has embarked on a series of high profile exhibitions to announce their expanded space, including such notables as Otto Dix and George Gross.

John Keating has long been shown in the Compagnia Del Disegno, and this will be his third tme contirbuting to the ongoing HANDS series. Aristotle compared the hands to the soul as they are a kind of instrument of instruments or controlling force, expressing mankind's varied vitality. The exhibtion runs from October 5th to the 18th, 2005.

John Keatings latest works can also be seen 23rd October - 11th November at the OSB Gallery, Enniskerry, Dublin, Ireland. The theme of this exhibition also explores the hand as an independent expressive force, the hand standing as a sort of signature for a person's independent existence. After the face, the hand is the part of the body which is the most independent, the most distinctive and the most popular.

Multi-award winning artist John Keating's exhibition "A Year" will be opened at the bold Art Gallery Galway, Ireland, on 22nd April 2005, by Irish pianist, composer, producer and ethnomusicologist, Professor Micheál Ó'Súilleabháin. John Keating studied at the Crawford Collage of Art, Trinity College in Dublin, Loughborough University and the Students League of New York.

This exhibition shows work throughout Keating's year including pieces inspired by his love of Italy and some of his work from Latvia. Keating has just returned from the International Baltic/Nordic contemporary watercolor symposium and exhibition at Zvartava Castle in Lavia.

Keating's unique use of greens and browns flowing and meeting in a haphazard way to create the figures, landscapes and surroundings he envisions are distinctly his own. John works predominantly in oils, but also has many works in pencil, watercolor and a mixed media allowing one to witness a powerful depiction of John's interpretation of his surroundings.

Keating's work features in the private collections of Bono, The Edge, Lisa Stansfield, Kenneth Brannagh, Michael Mortell, Pat Kenny, Richard Lewis, Mike Murphy and many more.

'Social & Personal' magazine, March 2002, has reviewed County Tipperary born artist John Keating. Keating writes a picture about his life as an artist: "Forty years ago my mother brought me up on the train from Clonmel to Dublin to receive a prize in the then called Caltex exhibition. If my memory is accurate I think the 'masterpiece' was a very quirky Teddy Bears' Picnic and the prize toy racing cars. . ." Read the complete text of the article.
