Brilliant is a word you'd have to use describing Patrick Morrison's paintings...God's creation with the colour turned up. In rainy, cloudy Dublin, his nude and garden paintings keep me warm. -- Bono

This exhibiton runs from the 25th of May until the 23rd of June, and should not be missed.

GARTER LANE ARTS CENTRE in Waterford, Ireland, is the venue for Patrick Morrison's exhibition "Swimming to Arcadia" an exhibition of paintings from Waterford collections and some recent related works. he show runs from the 8th to the 29th of September 2006. For more information contact antonia@garterlane.ie. Special Guest for the opening at 7pm the 8th will be Gottfried Helnwein.

Patrick Morrison traces his fascination with painting back to his childhood in Cork. At the age of 11 he and his family moved to London, where his inevitable providence was temporarily diverted by a number of years of international significance as an athlete. His athletic career came to an abrupt end however, and a move to California to take up a scholarship at Stanford University was the beginning of a life-long commitment to painting. His work now belongs in the collections of Sir Ben Kingsley, Nick Nolte, Faye Dunaway, Dennis Hopper, Mick Jagger, George Lucas and Dwight Yoakam, among others.

Morrison says of his work that "raised as I was like everyone else on cinema and pop music, painting seems to be a mysterious and fugitive pursuit that took place beyond the periphery of culture. I revel in the fact that in this age of miraculous technological innovation, the painter armed with his paint and brushes, can engage in the same solitary drama as that engaged in by kindred souls all down the ages and back to the caves."

Mambo Negro
Patrick Morrison
Painter to the film and stage celebrities, LA artist Patrick Morrison was born and reared in Cork, Ireland. It is appropriate then that he was invited to announce the opening of the 50th Cork Film Festival, October 2005, with the offical Festval poster.

Celebrating its 50th birthday this year, the Cork festival it is one of the oldest film festivals Europe. Drive-in movies, blockbusters and a celebration of the short film are all on the programme for this year's 50th birthday celebrations at the Cork International Film Festival.

Recalling his youth in Cork Morrison muses, "In the bleak postwar limbo that I grew up in, the "priest ridden" Ireland of DeValera, the cinema completed a trinity of transcendental venues, the other two being the church and the pub."

The Poster adapted from his Savoy Theatre Series, the 1987 painting "Mambo Negro" (Collection Peter Weller) was produced by BiteDesign.

Morrison's latest glowing works still hot from LA can be viewed in Dublin begining October 20th at the molesworth gallery.
