Francis Tansey's studio near Bennetsbridge, County Kilkenny, Ireland looks like an airplane hanger. It is huge. But then it would be. Tansey works large. Many of his intense colour studies envelope the observer's entire field of vision. But he also produces a number of smaller works of equal intensity for his wall-space-challenged admirers. In the 1980's Tansey's unique distillation and interpretation of Colourism, and Op, gained him immediate recognition worldwide and particularly in Ireland. A collection of contemporary Irish Art would be sorely incomplete with out 'a Tansey'.

PREVIEW: Twenty years on Tansey's new works still show the original influences that spawned his style, and yet his works have consistently progressed, probed, and explored, never loosing their freshness of impact. Whenever I spot one of Tansey's paintings in the lobby of, say, a corporate headquarters building, I immediately and unmistakably know that it is "a Tansey". It's that recognition of personal style that separates a few artists from the pack. By the way, Francis has just launched a new series of limited edition prints. These new prints and new original full scale paintings will be on exhibit at the 'Total Arts at the Courtyard Gallery' in Dubai, U.A.E., openning April 22, 2001. AV.
