Trasnaíocht (translated as interference) is Tony Gunning’s fifth solo exhibition which opens at the Watergate Theatre Gallery, Kilkenny on Friday 10th. November 2006. The paintings represent the artist’s personal observation of the visual impact of economic prosperity in the rural landscape. It is a warts-and-all snapshot of rural Ireland at the beginning of the new millennium. Interference implies disharmony which is certainly evident in this series of paintings. ‘Trasnaíocht’ explores subjects from urban sprawl and illegal dumping to transport infrastructure and other forms of structural development. The theme of this show is a natural progression from Gunning’s earlier work which was also inspired by the rapid pace of development, but in an urban setting. Trasnaíocht by Tony Gunning 10th November 2006 – 5th January 2007 at the Watergate Theatre Gallery, Parliament Street, Kilkenny.
