Sheelagh Cross Artists Statement Sheelagh Cross was born in North London, but now lives in South Kilkenny from where her family originates. She is mainly self taught but continued her creative education as a mature student in Cambridge and Hertfordshire where she attained distinction in fine art and design. This accomplished artist works in a variety of other media . Sheelagh is inspired by her local surroundings. Her work conveys spirit and vitality. Significant mark-making combined with personal energy go together to create imaginitive and distinctive imagery. Each painting evolves from rapid sketching and spontaneous reactions to her subject. Her subjects vary from rural landscape to cityscapes, transferring her observations and feelings to the chosen surface. Sheelagh prefers to use unconvential tools when executing a piece of work as she finds brushes and pens too restrictive. Sheelagh works in her own studio in Kiltrassy, Windgap. She has exhibited widely. Over a period of 12 years her work has become part of private and public collections. She has also undertaken numerous commissions.
