Sharon Murphy (b. 1981) is a Dublin painter who continues to develop her process-based discipline. She explores ways of utilising planes of colour, juxtaposing shape and line, building colour layers, and the varying of textures. The non-representative images being created are an attempt to create a visual balance which puts a focus on the use of positive and negative space. Paintings often render a minimal appearance on bare calico, imbuing transparent colours fields that are loosely bordered by pencil line. Pencil, pastel and small amounts of paint are used. Lines can separate, multiply and converge, creating fragmented columns and rows that still retain delicate and minimal aspects.
