The general theme of my work is nature based. Observing landscapes and seascapes, in Ireland and abroad, is the foundation for both my realistic and abstract work. I have a particular interest in geology and archaeology which is evident in my diploma and degree work while at the Limerick School of Art and Design (1992-97).
Colour is a strong feature in my paintings. The dramatic light and vibrant colours of countries, such as Spain and Australia, are evident in my work. Drawing directly from nature is the foundation of all the work I produce in various media. The style of my work has been described as both Expressionist and Neo-Romantic.
Experimentation, both with subjectmatter and technique, I believe, is imperative. This approach supplies me with a vast choice of new ideas. Therefore my work is not repetitive and is in a constant state of developmental change.
