'A Culture Invaded'

My work at the present time is still in a formative stage. The formal training I have received is for the most part very technical, encompassing the realms of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. The latter has included study in the areas of ceramics, sculpture, and jewelry making (basic metal working and design). The former includes the areas of photography, drawing, and oil painting. With regards to drawing and painting, my training has been Traditionally Academic in nature. My background consists of the study of the techniques and methods of representational realism developed and passed on from the Renaissance to the late nineteenth century. Since I anticipate further growth and development, my work remains largely experimental and in a state of perpetual evolution. Although it is very illusionist in technique, it is also autobiographical, socially aware, and even political in content. In this way, I aim to maintain a balance of form and content. As Traditional as my small body of work may initially appear, it does however serve as an expression of my self – addressing issues and themes of personal development, environmentalism, beauty, international politics, and human behavior. Thus far, my limited resources have limited me to draw my ideas mostly from photographs and images from publications – usually newspapers. Generally though, my work incorporates what is accessible and relevant to my self and my life. One painting in particular, titled Acute (2006-2007) is one of my most recent. Similar to much of my other work, it involves the human figure as a prominent feature. I currently foresee this piece as an initial part of a future series of work. Acute is an exploration of the human form and its ability to express emotions and messages through figurative gesture. I am fascinated with the ability of body language, conscious or unconscious, to psychologically convey powerful and seemingly limitless messages and feelings.
