                                JOSEPH   SLOAN                   CURRICULUM VITAE  (Abridged)
Born 1940, Co.Down, Ireland.

 A self-taught sculptor and wood-engraver, whose career began in professional theatre.

 

In 1977, Sloan’s wood-engravings were commissioned to illustrate  “Faraway World: an Orkney Boyhood”, published  André Deutsch, London.

Since the 1970’s he has  pursued a career in sculpture, exhibiting in one –man and group exhibitions in Ireland, U.K., Norway and France.  He has a continued interest in printmaking.

 In 1992 he created the O.N.E. Air Corps Memorial, Baldonnel; unveiled by Mary Robinson, President of Ireland.

Sloan  was  invited to exhibit in “Iontas”, Sligo; An t’Oireactas Belfast; Boyle Arts Festival and – in 2001 - Royal Hibernian Academy  Banquet Exhibition.  Regular contributor to RHA Annual between 1991 – 2003, and “Gateway to Art”: Aer Rianta 1994-97.  In 2001 he was the Invité d’Honneur at the Salon d’Automne, Sorgues.  Awarded medals in Cavaillon and Chateau-Arnoux Salons in France where he created the Ist Station of the Cross for Castellet church. 1990: ‘Best Sculptor’ Kilkenny Arts Week.
