Notes: The Children of Lir had their final landing in Allihies, West Cork. This is the first of a series celebrating that fact which is acknowledged by a plaque and a carefully tended mound representing the site of the landing or perhaps the location of the graves. A face is hidden in this painting. It is of my son Hugh who died earlier this year. When he was a young child I painted his face into a ork I titled "To the Waters and the Wild" so it seem fitting that I should include him in my first painting after his death. In other words, the presence of a vague face in this work is deliberate.
