Notes: The sitter for this portrait is a Maltese Knight. My concept was to superimpose the sitter’s features into “A Knight” a painting by Caravaggio in the Pitti Palace in Florence Italy. No one knows the identity of the sitter for “A Knight”. Hence my working title became “The Knight: Albert Cauchi, in the manner of Caravaggio’s ‘A Knight’”. In my rendition rosary beads are replaced with a plum bob in the sitter’s right hand, a symbol of his architect's trade, and the Maltese cross on his habit is colored green to signify Albert’s particular order of the Knights, the Order of Saint Lazarus.
