"Pilgrim Vessel 1"

Size: Width: 16 Height: 21 cms

Notes: This vessel was inspired by the small pilgrim flasks which were used by early european travellers to carry sacred oil and water home from the holy sites in the east. A modified version of the ancient Japanese technique known as 'raku' was used to fire the piece. After burnishing the surface of the clay to a smooth finish the vessel is fired and then placed in a reduction pit. Smoke and fire then create a distintive soft black crackle effect.
